A drop-in ceramics workshop
Come and spend some time with your fingers in clay.
Play with Clay is a relaxed, hands-on workshop where you can make, experiment and get to know the material without needing a plan or any previous experience.
I'll introduce you to some simple hand-building techniques and show you different ways to shape, join, press and mark the clay. From there, you're free to follow your own ideas. Make a small vessel, sculpture, ornament or curious object, or simply see what happens when you start working with the material.
There'll be a selection of tools and materials to explore, and I'll be around throughout the session to demonstrate, troubleshoot and help you develop your ideas.
What's included
An introduction to clay
We'll start with the basics of hand-building and explore a few simple ways of working with the material.
Time to make and experiment
The rest of the session is yours to explore. Work from an idea, respond to the clay as you go, or just start making and see where it takes you.
Surface and colour
You can add texture, marks and coloured slips to your pieces before they go into the kiln.
Firing and glazing
At the end of the session you can choose a couple of pieces to fire and I'll take care of the drying, glazing and firing after the workshop. Your finished pieces will be glazed in either transparent glossy glaze or satin white (your choice) and fired in the studio, ready for collection once they're complete.
No experience needed
Whether you've worked with clay before or have never touched it, this class is open to all.

Please wear something comfortable that you don't mind getting messy.
