A relaxed ceramics workshop / intro to ceramics.
Come and spend an evening making, experimenting and playing with clay.
Play with Clay is a chilled, hands-on workshop where you can explore the material without needing a plan or any previous experience. I'll introduce you to some simple hand-building techniques and show you different ways to shape, join, press and mark the clay.
From there, you're free to follow your own ideas. Make a small vessel, sculpture, ornament or curio, or simply start working with the material and see where it takes you.
I'll be around throughout the session to demonstrate, troubleshoot and help you develop your ideas, but there's no set project to follow and no expectation of what you should make - the purpose it to have fun and find your flow.
WHAT'S INCLUDED
An introduction to clay
We'll start with the basics of hand-building and explore a few simple ways of shaping and working with the material.
Time to make and experiment
The rest of the session is yours. Follow an idea, experiment with the material, or simply start making and see where it takes you.
Surface, texture & colour
Experiment with texture, marks and my own studio-made coloured slips to bring your pieces to life.
Firing & glazing
At the end of the session, you can choose up to two pieces to be fired. I'll take care of the drying, glazing and firing after the workshop. Your finished pieces will be glazed in either transparent glossy glaze or satin white, your choice, and ready to collect from the studio approximately two weeks later.
No experience needed
Whether you've worked with clay before or are picking it up for the first time, you're very welcome.

Please wear something comfortable that you don't mind getting messy.
Your finished pieces will be ready for collection approximately two weeks after the workshop.
